I want a Wide Angle Camera

Well here is my attempt to photoshop a couple of images together to get a complete shot of my living room. You can see all of the new furniture in place. I'm looking for something to put over in front of the windows that look out to the pool. I don't know what we are going to put there yet. Maybe a cool plant, or a bench. You can see the new Angela Adams rug very clearly in this photo. I recently found out that our rotating walnut coffee table is a Jens Risom design. We are also contemplating trading out the Bertoia Diamond chairs for two red Eames LCW's.

What a difference a year makes.

5-21-07

This is the same area taken this morning May 21, 2008. I just got done putting down about 3 yards of mulch but I didn't have time to clean the concrete. Its amazing how quick some plants grow. That red twig dogwood is taking over and we even trimmed a few feet off of it last year.

A shot of the Bamboo, its hard to see many of the new taller stalks they havn't fully leafed out yet. Try taking a look at the picture a little large. The tallest stalk is about 5'6" I was hoping to reach the six foot mark this year but we came up a little short. It did spread like crazy I'm guessing we have 40 new stalks this year. Next year we should really take off. In a few years we probably won't be able to see the white house next door.

We decided to give Horsetail Reed a try this year in screening out the pool pumps. Its supposedly evergreen and a perenial so hopefully it will survive the winter in the pot. Its really cool almost like bamboo without leaves. It should spread to fill the planter really quick and get 3'-4' tall in no time.

We got the CB2 planters set up on the corner of the patio. We went with castor bean plants in the pots, they have very nice large tropical leaf and grow very quickly. Those should get to be pretty tall by the end of the summer. They are one of the most poisonous plants out there so no matter what I tell you don't eat any part of the plants. If I could grow grass as well as every other plant we would have it made.

Before and After photos of the Home Remodel

Well I had a request for some side by side comparison photos of the remodel. Here are some of the exterior, I think it clearly shows how we impacted the exterior of the house in a year and a half. If anyone wants more photos of a specific area or has any questions just ask. I'm still working on some comparisons for the interior its even more of a drastic change I think. I've been working on the record storage units and will try and get a few pictures up in the next few days. They are turning out really nice and should be really cool.

Current Pictures

Well as promised here are the pictures of how the house looks as of last weekend. The grass is in good shape in the front yard, and as you can see the second Japanese Maple is doing very well. I'm curious where you all think I should mount my house numbers. That's probably a whole other post in itself, but if you have tips let me know.
Here is a couple of shots looking at the backyard. I don't have a fancy wide angle lens, so you guys will have to live with me photoshoping them together. The stuff that resembles grass in the backyard is a fine mixture of %10 grass, %90 weeds. I'm working on fixing that but this isn't exactly the right time of year to try to get grass to grow. You can see some of the landscaping we have put in, the bamboo didn't come in very tall this year but it looks very healthy and I'm expecting some major growth next year. If you see any plants you want to know the name of just ask.

Pics from the April 2007 BBQ

Well I got a little gift in the mail over the weekend. Dan Semar took these pics when he came over for the innagural BBQ, that wide angle lens makes all the difference in the world for our small little house. Here's a pic of the entry, I had to go back and see but its been three months since he took these photos. I didn't realize so much had happened. The garage is painted, the front yard has grass and some landscaping, the back yard has crabgrass and alot of landscaping. I took some current pics over the weekend just to show the difference.

A shot of me in the kitchen preparing the feast.
A close up of the Walnut cabinets and the vinyl collection. Notice the countertop reveal on the left, I'm pretty sure the cabinet maker and my dad thought I was nuts on that one but I think it turned out cool.
A shot of the living room showing our mismash of furniture. The white couch I actually got from my boss, I have no idea who made it but its in great shape for being as old as it is. The two red chairs are Jens Risom for Knoll, a craigslist find locally that turned out to be a pretty good deal, at least as good of a deal as designer furniture can be. Of course you can see the George Nelson Bubble Lamps, I really like them I'm glad we went with them over the Le Klint.

Process

Well since not all of you who check this blog have followed the whole process I thought I would piece together some images of each space showing the transformations we made during the remodel. I'll try and do this for each space, so everyone can see what transpired more easily. I haven't really been doing much on the house lately. We've been in the process of buying a new car for Jessica and getting this wedding thing figured out. Consequently I'll be launching a new blog for the wedding, with some general wedding info I'll keep you posted on that one. Many of you know I have also been piecing together a decent woodworking shop, and recently made a large purchase of some rough cut walnut. I've got several projects already lined up a bed being the largest so I'll be posting some information on those as I actually get something done.

Oh, and the good news is that we are currently in the lead in the blogging competition. I encourage all of you who have voted for us, to take a look at their site. Many of you are currently working on projects on you own house and they have some good tips. I also get a good kick out of many of the blogs.

I've been quietly looking for a cheap way to produce a book documenting our remodel mostly for our personal use and a few friends. If any of you know of a cheap way I could get this done please let me know.

Some Recent Photos

Well I got a chance to take a few photos last week and thought I would share them with you. I struggled getting the Nelson Bubble Lamps to photograph well. I will try and get some daytime shots soon. You can see my new coffee table in the bottom of the last shot. I don't know who made it, but its a very cool round Walnut table. One interesting note is that the table top is a lazy-susan, yep the whole thing spins. I don't really know what good a spinning tabletop is good for, but its entertaining.
