Ok here are some preliminary images of the bed. I havn't really resolved the built in nightstands but everything else is very close to what the final bed will look like. Let me know what you guys think.
this is great. i hate to admit, but i didn't know you had a blog! let alone that it dealt with mcm! this is all great stuff. expect a new reader, ha ha ha. i'll try to catch up with everything.
about the magazine...yes, please submit. everything i've seen on your page would be great to have in there!
and i will take you up on your offer next time i'm in k.c., not sure when that will be, but i'd love to see all the mcm k.c. has to offer.
Hey! Can't wait to see the finished platform bed. One suggestion: what if the bedside tables were lacquer? It looks like you might have some storage drawers below that might be a different material than the headboard. Could be a nice way to tie it all together.
Oooh, okay so I have one more thought. I was reading a magazine this morning at the gym and came across a headboard very similar to yours, with the slatted wood headboard. In addition to the wooden box below as the bedside table, they had a smaller shelf above that appeared to slide back and forth in the slats.
This blog was started to document our remodel of a Mid Century Modern home in Kansas City built by Don Drummond. You will also find information on my furniture design/build and other side projects.
I am a third generation home builder in the Kansas City area. I grew up working for my Fathers construction company and I graduated w/ an Architecture degree from Kansas State University in 2005. I hope to eventually combine my two passions into a Design Build Company. I am currently working for myself at Studio Build doing projects in the Kansas City area. I'm currently looking for design/build work in the area and am tackling several local projects. Please contact me if you would like to discuss a project.

The following links are ones that I found throughout my remodel process. I purchased things from many of the sites, I'm not affiliated with any of them though I could be if for some reason they want to send me some free stuff. Hopefully these help some of you in your own adventures.

Just a thought. It will look great either way!
